Emma

I am currently reading a book called 'Emma' written by Jane Austen.
Most of you would probably know her and have read most of her books. But not me. I haven't read too many classic books so I'm mostly concentrating on that category for the time being. Although I do love to read a modern book once in a while.
Right now I'm on Chapter 35 and I'm lovin' it. I love that decade, 17 -1800's so it's interesting to me from the start. But even though it's written at that time it's amazing how nicely it reads and it's very understandable. Very fluid. I would recommend this book highly to anyone who likes that era.
Another thing I like about Austen's style is that each chapter reads like a short story. They could be separated from the book and still be understandable. Each chapter has it's own climax and trouble. It's interesting the ways she's done it. Especially since nowadays, most authors don't do that anymore.
I love this book so far and I can't wait to see what happens to the characters. I also look forward to reading Austen's other books.
That's it for now, write to you guys later!

I'll have to try that one out -- I tried to read "Pride and Prejudice" and could NOT get into it, but it may have just been my timing was off.
I do love reading books written about this era. Something mysterious about the past, I guess.
I loved this book - I'm glad you're enjoying it too!
Don't worry about not reading the classics sooner. I have found they have more meaning for me now that I am older and have gone back to reread many of them.
Jane Austin is one of the best writers of all time! You talk about each chapter coming to a climax - sounds like the book I just reviewed for the carnival: The Widow's War. Takes place in the same time period, too, though it was written in the 20th century. You would probably enjoy it!
Hi, Nora! (Great name... my grandma's name was Nora. Grandpa called her Norey.) =)
I have never read Emma, but I have read Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, and I'm in the middle of Persuasion... I may have read Sense and Sensibility too...
Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors. I really love her books and I wish she had more. Did you know she died when she was only 41 years old?

I didn't get into the classics until I was in my thirties and Jane Austen is my absolute favorite. I love Sense and Sensibility. Besides the book, I can watch the 1995 movie version over and over again. Once you get used to her language, give Pride and Prejudice a try again. It really is great.
Oh, I just LOVE Jane Austen! She's a favourite autor of mine! But then you have to read Pride and Prejudice, I think it is my favourite of hers. And if you can find it (I know it's pretty rare in america), a compilation of her first writings (letters, short stories and such, from when she was 17/20), called Juvenilia. It's just hilarious, and gives you insight into her life at the time... You're so lucky, now you can look forward to reading all her books, instead of having done so already lol!

Oh, I do love Jane Austen, especially her dialog. You can just hear the people actually talking. (Even if I can't imagine myself as witty as her characters are, lol.)
I should read this book! I always forget about the classics. Thanks for the mini review. :-)
